One About the Gipper

No matter where my changing political ideologies have taken me, I've always retained a certain amount of fondness for (if not the same level of hardcore devotion to) Ronald Reagan.

Yesterday would have been his 102nd birthday, and in honor of that, here's a pretty cool story about the man, not the President.

  1. Pete,

Reagan actually exchanged many, many letters with all sorts of people over the years. There are a couple of good collections of his writings out there, such as REAGAN IN HIS OWN HAND. I think that his willingness to engage in these correspondences explains why he was able to "connect" with the American people to the degree that he did. Not all "great communication," after all, has to be verbal in nature.

  2. Hey Chris,

I own many Reagan books (some because of your recommendations), but I don't think this one is in my collection.

Good point about his ability to connect and to communication. Unfortunately, we're a talky society. I'm trying to be less talky these days and more apt to listen to what those around me are trying to say...the expressions of their souls, if you will.

    Pete
